Conventional agriculture is reducing soil biodiversity and hampering soil health. Synthetic fertilizers containing chloride or high salt index - such as potassium chloride (KCl) - are known to have biocidal effects, killing soil organisms, and thus, jeopardizing soil’s ability to store carbon.
Climate change is a race against time and soil biodiversity can be our greatest ally!
Soil organisms have a direct role in soil carbon sequestration which takes carbon from the atmosphere and stores it in the soil. Biodiverse soils can capture up to 50x more carbon than low-biodiversity soils. Therefore, we need to promote soil biodiversity by minimizing the use of chloride in agriculture.
